Other / Editorial

  • Editorial work is writing that speaks to art that cannot typically be translated directly onto a page in a magazine. This includes film, music, dance, performance art, comedy, etc.

For editorial features, we are looking for…

    • Fully formed pitches that fulfill the following requirements:

      • A description of the local artist they intend to write a profile on

      • How that artist is in conversation with a larger theme, scene and/or idea

      • A critical analysis of that theme, scene and/or idea and how it relates to the world as a whole

    • An anticipated word count of 2,000 to 5,000 words

    • Please note: we will be accepting creative collaborations across all mediums, if you are interested in writing a piece about a more obscure art form, we highly recommend following that inspiration

What we are asking for is cultural criticism and dialogue; think of this as your opportunity to creatively flex!

For Issue No. 6 (coming out in spring, 2025), we will accept a total of five editorial pieces.

  • To pitch, please email hello@currantjam.org with the below information:

    • The email subject as “Currant Jam Submission – Your Name”

    • Include your name, pronouns & the city where you live

    • Your pitch (see above “General Information” section for guidelines)

    • Links to at least one recent writing sample by the writer(s) of the piece (features/non-fiction preferred, but any form of writing will be considered)

    • Examples of recent work (links to videos, photographs, or whatever best shows the work that the piece will highlight)

    • Short bio for each artist involved

    • Relevant social media handles

We are looking for a word count of 2,000 to 5,000 words on the final piece
